Transform your living room into a chemistry lab, a biological field site, an engineering warehouse, and an artist studio! Art and science are two different tools for exploring and making sense of the world that compliment each other well.

In this creative reuse activity kit, you will engage both your curiosity and your creative instincts!This kit consists of 5 separately packaged activities. Start by creating a lab notebook, and then use it to keep track of your questions, hypotheses, thoughts, and doodles while completing the 4 experimental and artistic activities! You’ll separate the colors in a marker using paper chromatography, demonstrate the greenhouse effect with a crafty terrarium, design a bug vacuum to observe the crawly creatures around you, and engineer a self-propelling bottle car.

Open one activity a day for a week-long experience, or spread them out as your own pace.These activities are recommended for 3rd graders and older, but everyone is different and please don’t let your age stop you from joining in the fun and learning! Some activities may require an adult lab partner.

Explore the solar system from your living room! In this art and science at-home kit, we’ll use hand-sewing (no-sew options included!) to explore our vast planetary neighborhood. We will create pencil cases, Kuiper-belt-themed belts, fabric aliens, astronaut moon mission patches, voyager-inspired time capsules, and more. The materials required for each out-of-this-world project, and the mind-blowing science behind them are included - all you need is your imagination!

Students of all ages can sew (and glue) their way through the solar system! This kit is customizable based on sewing abilities and knowledge level. We have designed all projects to be able to be completed without sewing at all - you can use glue, sticky vinyl, and other materials instead of a needle and thread. Of course, you can also embroider every square inch! Go crazy! This kit will have you honing your observation skills as you probe for life all around you, thinking about your impact on the environment as you repurpose human-made objects, and engaging your imagination as you craft upcycled projects inspired by the living world around you.

Planet Utah consists of 5 separately packaged “days,” each with a set of exploratory prompts, and a multi-hour creative reuse activity. You’ll get a Bug Hotel Kit, Vertebrate Collage Kit, Seed Germination Kit, Lichen Painting Kit, and a Creative Use & Reuse Kit. Open one kit a day for a week-long kit experience, or spread them out as you wish!Students of all ages will be able to participate and enjoy the experience.
